I got into La Trobe through Aspire Community Impact. In high school, I participated in a lot of leadership activities and programs, and I was a college co-captain, which was what paved my way into the program. Knowing I was backed by Aspire gave me a lot of confidence, especially towards the end of Year 12. Going into my exams with that reassurance really settled my nerves.

How to apply

Follow these steps to get into your dream course with Aspire.

  • Confirm your eligibility

To be eligible, you will need to ensure you meet the application criteria:

    • be a current Year 12 student
    • be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
    • have volunteering or community experience
    • meet all course prerequisites, including Aspire ATAR requirements.

Contact our Future Students Centre on 1300 135 045 or talk to us via live chat if you need help or for more information.

  • Prepare for your application

First, make sure you understand the program requirements and have everything in order to submit your application.

You’ll need to provide information about the length and frequency of your community service or volunteering experience, and describe your involvement and impact. If you've volunteered with one of our Aspire Partners, you can get additional consideration for your application.

Your application will need to include the following:

    • Involvement (150 words): Describe the type of community engagement you are or were involved in, providing details about your participation in community service and/or volunteering activities.
    • Impact (150 words): Detail the impact of your actions on the community and how they have contributed to your personal growth and development.

You can learn how to fill your application form by following Advice for preparing your Aspire application.

  • Preference your Aspire courses

You can nominate up to three La Trobe University undergraduate courses to be considered for as part of your application. It’s important you explore which three courses you would like to select now, as you will not be able to edit these once your application is submitted.

To secure your Aspire place, you need to make sure the course you applied for with Aspire is listed among your preferences in VTAC/UAC.

The offer you receive from VTAC/UAC will be for the course listed highest on your preference list, assuming you've met all the admission criteria.

  • Submit your application

Once you’ve read through and understood the requirements, it's time to submit your application.

If your application is successful, you'll receive a conditional offer from 9 October.

Your conditional offer becomes formal during the first round of offers via VTAC/UAC in December, provided you met all course and Aspire ATAR requirements listed on your Aspire Conditional Offer, and have the course listed high on your preference list.

To receive an unconditional course offer, you must:

    • Meet the standard course prerequisites and any extra requirements for your chosen course
    • Meet the Aspire ATAR for your course
    • Place your Aspire course high in your VTAC/UAC preference list.

The offer you receive from VTAC/UAC will be for the course listed highest on your preference list, assuming you've met all the admission criteria.

Remember, your Aspire offer will only be available in the first round of offers.

FAQs

The Aspire ATAR is the ATAR you need to achieve to unlock your conditional offer. The Aspire ATAR is usually lower than a regular ATAR - it's a way of encouraging you to reach higher than you thought you could.

Keep in mind that all course prerequisites still apply, but we'll give you the Aspire ATAR in your Community Impact conditional offer letter.

There are no requirements on how long you have volunteered for. Offers are based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

The length and frequency of your community service or volunteering experience and the impact of your involvement will be considered as part of your application.

If you do not receive the ATAR required to meet the conditions of your Aspire Community Impact offer, it is still possible to receive an offer for the course through the regular selection process. The reason for this is that the Aspire minimum ATAR requirements refer to "raw" ATAR Scores (i.e. before adjustment factors are applied).

For example, if you receive an Aspire offer for the Bachelor of Business with an Aspire ATAR requirement of 50 and you receive an ATAR of 46 – while you would not meet the direct conditions of your Aspire conditional offer, you may be eligible for adjustment factors and may still receive an offer for the course through the regular selection process.

Questions? speak with our team about alternative pathway options to add to your VTAC preference list.

You can apply for most undergraduate courses at La Trobe through Aspire Community Impact.*

However, caveats apply for the following courses:

  • Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical): Meeting the Aspire ATAR for this course guarantees an interview only.
  • Bachelor of Education: The minimum Aspire ATAR for the Bachelor of Education is 55. In addition the Victorian Government requires students to meet a minimum Selection Rank of 70 through eligible adjustment factors. Applicants must also successfully satisfy CASPer or AFTA to be considered for a place.

* Offers are based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available. Caps are in place for quota courses and ranking dependencies apply. Rurality origin applies to some caps and courses.

Yes, if you have met the conditions of your Aspire offer and your course allows deferral, as some courses do not allow deferral.

# The automatic conditional offers with our partners means that we are pleased to offer you (at minimum with us) a secured place or an alternate pathway at La Trobe as your Aspire early offer. It does not automatically guarantee the course preference/s listed in your Aspire application or the conditional offer due to some course caps and the early offer assessment ranking. Your Aspire application will be assessed accordingly.
